Read a Casewatch

What a Casewatch holds, and the order it puts things in.

  1. A Casewatch is one live record of one incident.
  2. It opens with the case, the toll, and where each figure came from.
  3. Those lost comes next, before any of the legal machinery.
  4. Every name carries the outlet that named them.
  5. Each section below is sourced the same way.

Follow the timeline

One timeline. The 911 call, the first post, and the pictures behind them.

  1. Timeline of events holds everything the record knows, oldest first.
  2. A red phone marks the first 911 call.
  3. The tank failed at 07:09. Nobody called until 07:19.
  4. Rows also show when the story first reached each platform.
  5. A picture means the cited page published one. Press it to open the source.

Use the map

One map, three questions: the air, the water, and the class.

  1. Site map answers three questions about the same place.
  2. Air & proximity shows where vapour drifts, and who is inside 3 km.
  3. Press Water pathway for the route: tank, ditch, pumping station, river.
  4. Press Class reach for where the affected class lives.
  5. The map does not move between views. Only the overlay changes.

Check the sources

How to check the record instead of trusting it.

  1. Every timeline row ends in the outlet that carried it.
  2. Press the outlet to open the page it came from.
  3. Citation closes the page with every source the case used.
  4. It also records where we looked and found nothing.
  5. Looked and found nothing is not the same as never looked.
